2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Shift Follows Poor Feedback
Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing early showing last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure notified staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had indicated the need for a clearer direction.
The president noted that the team is now refining the project with a revised vision, aiming to better meet community desires.
Trend of Key Recruitment
The news mirrors a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the full content from the president's communication:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative creators we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that relationship to endure.”
With your dedication and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It confirmed the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had work to do. It highlighted the requirement for a sharper brand.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the input to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed goal - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our audience.
The belief in this project increases every day. To boost the outstanding development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the new Director of 31st Union. Following some time of conversations, he officially joins us on the specified date.
His guidance and background in the competitive gaming space is vast, having devoted the recent years producing and overseeing some of the most well-known series in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in welcoming Ben in the coming days. We are all eager to continue witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the weeks to follow.
David

Title Details and Concept
Project Ethos was revealed in last year alongside a early access event. Initially, 31st Union portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an thrilling evolution on the style."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary explains. "Challenge the rivals with new abilities, risks, and tests that evolve every round. Will you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively go big, gamble everything, and pray your squad can secure victory? The option is in your hands."
Project Ethos has not yet received an official debut schedule or consoles, but fans can expect more updates as production progresses.
