Larian Studios Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team might be designing a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is precisely these elements that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
